ESI Registration

Brief Background- ESI Registration Under the Ministry of Labour and Employment of Government of India, an autonomous organization, which is essentially a self-funding social security and health insurance scheme, called Employee’ State Insurance, was established which commonly came be to known as ESI. ESI provides for various needs of an Indian worker, such as Medical benefit, maternity benefit, disablement benefit and many other benefits, not only to the Employee but to the Employee’s family too.

All Establishments, shops and Factories, when employing more than 10 employees are required to compulsorily take ESI registration and application for taking registration shall be filed within 15 days of the ESI Act, 1948 becoming applicable to them.

Benefits

Benefits of ESI:

  1. Medical aid: The ESI member along with the family members are entitled to enjoy the medical benefits provided under ESI scheme.
  2. Maternity aid: Payable up to 26 weeks, any pregnant women is entitled for monetary benefits which can be extended also.
  3. Disablement and Sickness benefits: Some part of their salary will be given as the benefit to the Employee in case of disablement or sickness.
  4. Funeral expenses: The family members of the deceased Employee will be given some amount towards the funeral of the Employee.
  5. Vocational rehabilitation: Insured employees are entitled to undergo vocational rehabilitation training at VRS in case of disablement.
  6. Old age medical care: Insured employees are ensured of benefits related to medical care for retiring ESI employee(s) or for those who are opting for VRS/ERS. ESI members retiring due to permanent disabilities are also entitled to the same benefits.

Documents

Documents to be submitted:

  1. Id proof of authorized signatory
  2. Address proof in form of rent agreement or receipts
  3. Tax receipt
  4. MoA and AoA
  5. Copies of Certificate of commencement and Registration No. of CGST or GST
  6. Copy of PAN Card
  7. Monthly statistics of employees
  8. Bank statement copy

Procedure

The procedure of getting ESI registration:

  1. Getting ESI Registration: An application is to be move in Form-01 to regional office.
  2. Obtaining Code Number: A unique 17-digit identification Code number will be provided.
  3. For Employees:

Declaration form filled at the time of starting the employement along with two copies of family photo to be submitted at ESI Branch Office.

  1. Insurance Number:

The Employee will be allotted an insurance number for the purpose of his identification under the scheme.

  1. Temporary Identity Card:

They will be issued a temporary identity card for availing medical benefit for family and themselves.

  1. Permanent Photo Identity Card:

They will be provided with a permanent photo identity card which can be transferred from one employment to another.

Other information

The following establishments, when employing 10 or more persons needs ESI registration:

  1. Shops
  2. Hotels or restaurants only providing service
  3. Cinemas
  4. Roadside Motor Transport Establishments
  5. Newspaper establishments
  6. Private Educational Institution(s) & Medical Institution(s)
